Shark Maintenance | Engrave-A-Crete

Chris shows you how to change the impactors on the KaleidoCrete Shark from Engrave-A-Crete.

Hi, I’m Chris Mirabal, senior tech advisor of Engrave-A-Crete. We’re in the assembly room of our manufacturing facility in Mansfield, Missouri, and today we’re going to maintenance concrete peckers.

We’re going to start off with the Shark. We’re going to change the impactors of our Sharks. Right down here, we’re going to go ahead and remove this air hose.

Now, I like to reference this as the top of the tool. There are four bolts at the top, the top collar, holding everything together, here. Those are going to be the bolts that we’re going to loosen up.

I’ll put this down on the side, put my safety glasses on. It’s going to take a 7/16th wrench and an Allen key. We’re going to simply loosen up the four bolts. We don’t need to take them all of the way off.

Once we have them loosened up – it’s quite long threads – we’re just simply going to take the Shark completely apart. See what I mean about long threads.

Then we have the tool in two pieces. The impactors all sit in this intermediate tube along with a spring. We can go ahead and simply take the spring —go ahead and slide it right back down into the tube.

You see how our impactors are all sitting. This is an anvil in my right hand. Simply going to take the impactors right out of the collet here. This is a collet. It has holes that roll all the way through it. Basically, we’re going to take our impactors and set them off to the side.

We’re going to grab our new impactors, which have a slightly mushroomed head at the top. That is the part that will hold the impactors in place. I just kind of take them, jiggle them around and get them started in there. They all start to drop in place. Of course with the last few, you’re going to have to pick up and place yourself.

Once I have my impactors in the collet, the internal parts are much the same as the Barracuda, which is sitting right here. If you want more information on our Barracuda, you can watch our blog on that as well.

Now we’re going to take the anvil. It sits inside of the collet. Make sure that happens. We do not want to reverse this. If we reverse this, then we will blow apart our intermediate tube, and now the tool will not function correctly.

We want to go ahead and make sure that this sits nice and firmly inside. We’ll simply take our new impactors. We’re going to slide everything back down into our intermediate tube. We’re going to go ahead and check to make sure that there’s no debris down inside of our tool. This is the pneumatic part of the tool. We’ll go and do a quick inspection.

Now, to hook everything back up, we simply move our air line out of the way here. We go ahead and thread everything right back up into place. We simply hook up our air line, so we don’t forget that.

We’re going to take our 7/16th wrench and an Allen key and we’re going to simply tighten everything back up. The last thing I want to do, before I start using my Shark again, is I want to take air-tool oil, and I basically want to drop eight to 10 drops of oil in our air inlet. Once we’ve done that, we can go ahead and plug it right into air and use it as normal.

That’s it, your concrete pecker is as good as new.
